Pony Express
Background
The Pony Express was a mail delivery system from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California. It operated from April 3, 1860 to October 1861. It became the most direct means of east-west communication before the telegraph. 
Riders of the Pony Express carried messages by horseback stopping at relay stations traveling between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. They crossed the prairies, plains, deserts, and mountains in the span of ten days.
Students will view several online newspapers and follow the permalinks embedded in each PowerPoint slide to learn about the The Pony Express and its importance.
They will use the Pony Express, Design a Stamp and Communication Card Game, as well as other resources, to guide their exploration and find out more!
